Hamas is a Palestinian Sunni-Islamist fundamentalist organization responsible for numerous acts of violence. It has been the de facto governing authority of the Gaza Strip since its victory in the 2006 Palestinian elections.
Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by Argentina, Australia, Canada, European Union, Israel, New Zealand, Paraguay, United Kingdom, United States. The United Nations does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization.
